All tea comes from the leaf of the same plant, the Camellia Sinensis.
The differences in tea come from the processing.
Black Tea is fully oxidized (fermented) by exposing to air and heat. Sometimes flavored with herbs or oils or can be smoked. Most popular tea in U.S. Contains the most caffeine.
Green Tea is unfermented and some are steamed or pan fired. Well known for its health properties and unique taste. Has half the caffeine of black tea.
Oolong Tea is partially fermented, and
combines the best characteristics of black and green teas.
The most difficult type to manufacture, it has a complex and rich taste. Caffeine level is between green and black tea.
White Tea is unprocessed and is the most delicate and rare. Studies are showing it may be the most healthful tea, which is boosting its popularity. Has a very light taste. Contains very little caffeine.
Herbal & Fruit Infusions sometimes called Tisanes are not really tea at all, since they are not from the tea plant, but rather are dried herbs, flowers, etc. Herbs generally have their own healthful properties.
Rooibos, South African Red Bush “Tea”, is rich in antioxidants and minerals. Naturally caffeine free.
